Delete Your Account

You can delete your HonestID account, and everything stored with it, at any time. Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no recovery window and no way to restore an account afterwards.

From the app

1. Open HonestID and unlock with your biometrics.
2. Go to Account.
3. Tap Delete Account and confirm.

Your data is removed straight away and the app returns to the sign-in screen.

If you no longer have your old phone

An HonestID account is bound to a single device, so a lost, stolen, broken or replaced phone needs one extra step first. You do not need the old phone to get back in.

1. Install HonestID on your new phone and sign in as normal.
2. The app recognises a new device and offers to start a device transfer. Start it.
3. Approve the transfer, either from your old phone if you still have it, which completes it straight away, or from the email we send to your registered address, which completes it 24 hours later. Without one of those approvals the transfer expires and your account stays on the old device.
4. Delete the account from Account, as above.

We deliberately do not delete accounts on the strength of an email asking us to. An email address is not proof that an account belongs to you, and treating it as proof would let anyone who knew your address destroy your account and your contacts. The transfer above is the route that proves it.

If the transfer itself will not complete, email support@honestid.io and we will help you resolve it. We reply within a few working days and always within 30 days.

What gets deleted

• Your account record, including your name and email address.
• Your device binding: the registered device key and push notification token.
• Your contacts, in both directions, so you are removed from their lists too.
• Invitations you have sent, and invitations addressed to you.
• Your verification history, in both directions.
• Notifications and security records associated with your account.
• Your sign-in credentials, including any passkeys registered to the account.

What we never held

Honest Keys, security questions and answers are end-to-end encrypted and matched on your device. We never hold them in a readable form, so there is nothing to delete. The temporary data used during a verification expires on its own within minutes.

What we keep

Nothing beyond the limited records we are required to retain by law. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data while your account is active.
